The Typical Nigerian Child ...

The typical Nigerian child is found neglected in public schools around the country.
They walk long distances to schools, most of times without textbooks or notebooks and are made to learn on bare floors of their classrooms.
Individual students provide and buy simple learning tools like chalks, furniture and worst of all; they go a whole day without food.

Problems

What we have today in many of Nigerian institutions of learning are "leaking roofs, unpaved floors, totally unsanitary conditions, and general picture of neglect that reduces some institutions to the status of glorified animal pens" (Akebukola; cited in Ossisioma, 2002).
